Post 4: Editing

Flowers from a Man; 01/29/2011, 3:25pm; Rexburg, ID; f 5; 1/50; no flash.

To edit this picture, I opened my picture folder in Bridge and opened the jpeg in Camera Raw from there. This makes editing colors and shadows a lot easier, since there are a bunch of sliders to play with, all in one place. That's pretty much what I did: mess with the saturation, brightness, hue (made it more violet), and even made a little vignette.

Panorama: Diary of a Woman’s Bedroom; 01/29/2011, 4:05pm; Rexburg, ID; f 9; 1/4; no flash.

I chose to do the panorama on my sister's and my room, mainly out of curiosity as to how it would turn out. What came out was something very lovely, I think. It shows a half of a room that is very lived-in and vibrant with color and light....I need to clean.

2.       Llama; 01/23/11, 4:31pm; Pocatello, ID; f 9; 1/200; flash used.

For the lamp, I used an adjustment layer to make the picture black and white. I, then, painted black on the mask in the area I wanted the color to show through.
For the llama, I made the picture into a smart object (right click on the layer, then click convert to smart object), then I set a blur filter over the object. Making sure I had clicked the mask that the filter gives me, I painted black on the area that I didn't want blurred (the foreground llama).

2. Computer; 01/15/2011, 6:42pm; Rexburg, ID; f 10; 1/15; no flash.

I put the picture of the window over the picture of the laptop and brought the opacity on the window very low (around 30-40%). After that, I typed the text out and put the overlay blend on it (from the drop menu over the layers). I had to mess with the size of the font, since the given choices were all too small. In the end, it all worked out, though.

Even though black isn't technically a color (it's a neutral), it's still one of my favorites. I suppose that's because it contrasts with most of the world. Next to all the color and light in this world, there's black. Black's a mystery.
I am still becoming acquainted with my camera, so I did my best with the aperature. I found that by changing the shutter, the aperture seemed more happy (that could be because I was on shutter priority, but don't tell anyone). I did, however, still play a lot with the aperture and metering on the camera (photo 1 is a prime example of my toying with the aperture). I think photo 2 was on the AUTO setting, so I just pointed and shot. Photos 3 and 4 were my toying with the shutter priority--with the light in the room--to create a good environment for the black to dwell in on the picture.

I really love the summer: the heat and humidity, the brightness and sweet smells. I like to try and capture this feeling in my pictures for when I'm in Rexburg and it's cold. I also love looking at interesting lines (the telephone lines and post with the candle) as well as interesting textures and angles (the wall with my sister and the palm trees). And, like everyone else, I like a good sunset!
