For the lamp, I used an adjustment layer to make the picture black and white. I, then, painted black on the mask in the area I wanted the color to show through.
For the llama, I made the picture into a smart object (right click on the layer, then click convert to smart object), then I set a blur filter over the object. Making sure I had clicked the mask that the filter gives me, I painted black on the area that I didn't want blurred (the foreground llama).
Virginia, I really enjoyed looking at your edits this week. I think that they were quite creative, especially the one of the lamp. I also thought that the llama was unique, seeing how it is not a common sight in Idaho to see a llama, especially in the winter. However, a few suggestions: The lamp seemed to have a hard edge between the color and b&w. If you were to soften the edges and also decrease the saturation of the lamp a bit, it could have had an antique feel. Also, the gaussian blur for the llama was pretty strong. I would have made is just a bit less dramatic. Overall, however, I think that the pics were great. Keep shooting!
